melis-matic:

So as you know I went to the NME Awards Tour 2012 on Saturday in Manchester with my friend and it was AMAZING.
I’ll go in order of each act, which coincidently is the order of preference for me.
So Azealia Banks was up first, and although Rap really isn’t my favourite genre, I’m not doubting that this girl is talented. She just seems to enjoy herself and draw the crowd in with her. I wasn’t actually in the crowd at this point, I was with my friend in a queue, but none of us in the queue could take our eyes away from her bouncy, underground, electro-rap feel. The DJ (not sure of his name, but she tours with him) was having just as much fun as Azealia, and the crowd was loving it. I must admit though, I don’t know if all the swearing is lyrically amazing, but hey, personal opinion I suppose. If you’re into “I could bust your 8/ I’m-a do one too/ f*** ya gon’ do?’” then that is up to you. “212” is still a kickin’, bad ass tune.
So next up were Tribes, and they got more of the audience together - you know, hot and sticky and stuff. But that’s the fun of it, and believe me, Tribes were fun. They are a bit of an indie-rock band, more on the alternative-rock side of things. They actually reminded me of REM, but I don’t exactly know why, just some of the chord progressions had a bit of an REM feel. It’s hard to describe an actual band to completely link them to, but they are definitely worth a listen to. They also did an acoustic song, which was brilliant and got us all swaying. I also think that the lead singer, Johnny Lloyd - who has a brilliant, lulling, rock voice - looks a little like Julian Casablancas from the Strokes. But possibly not as hot (woah).
Next up were the amazing Metronomy. I knew about Metronomy already and knew quite a few of their songs, in fact almost the whole set, but I was not expecting them to be so amazing. Seriously, they are a band I would go see on their own tour. They are a 4-piece indie-electro-alternative-synth-almost-new-wave-80’s-style-which-you-know-I-like-pop-chilled feel. It’s hard to describe exactly what they are but they use plenty of synths, I’m guessing a lot of Casio keyboards or something similar, and at one point a weird electronic saxophone thing, which I must find out what it was and then buy one. I’m going to stick a genre on them, so let’s go with; alternative electro-pop. I swear genre’s are getting weirder and weirder. But seriously, check this band out. They had this sublime, chilled feel and we were all dancing to tracks like “The Bay” and “The Look” in the oddest way. Seriously, arms were flailing but our hips were twisting slowly. It was trance like, that’s for sure. And then tracks like “Radio Ladio” and “A Thing For Me” got us bouncing, and laughing. They are amazing, and I love them. Check them out; now.
AND FINALLY. Two Door Cinema Club. The band I went to see. The band I have been waiting to see for nearly two years. They did not disappoint in anyway. They played every track from “Tourist History” and played new un-released songs, off their upcoming album, which were really catchy - one of which being pretty synthy, a little like Metronomy. If you don’t know who Two Door Cinema Club are; 1. Where have you been? and 2. They are a three-piece indie-rock band from Northern Ireland and they are brilliant. The guitar has this distortion that is perfected in a way that is just brilliant. By the final song “I Can Talk” I was dancing with some boy who I’d been squashed against the whole gig, like we were best friends. The crowd - me included - was mental. We got so exhausted at one point, that when a song finished you could only hear our panted breaths from the amount of jumping, singing and arm punching. I must admit, after being to heavy rock concerts and a screamo festival, I really was not expecting the crowd to be this mental at an indie gig, but believe me, Manchester was buzzing that night.
So I’ll link some songs up now, but tell me, anyway seen any of the artists before - maybe you even went/ are going to the NME Awards Tour- and what did you think of them?
